SACS Operating Referendum Renewal Overview
On November 8th, registered voters in Southwest Allen County School (SACS) District may vote to renew the tax-supported operating referendum.
If renewed, the operating referendum will again approve the 15 cent rate per $100 home assessed value.
The operating referendum dollars are used 100% for salaries and benefits of personnel assisting the school district to retain and attract high-quality educators and staff.
Since 1985, SACS has operated with the assistance of a taxpayer-supported operating referendum. The operating referendum dollars are used 100% for salaries and benefits of personnel.
The current referendum, first approved in 2009 and renewed in 2016 by 75% of the voters, is set to expire and must be renewed in accordance with Indiana Code 20-46-1.
The current referendum, first approved in 2009 and renewed in 2016 funds:
43 Classroom Teachers
2 Guidance Counselors
1 School Police Officer
RETAIN:
43 Classroom Teachers
2 Guidance Counselors
1 School Police Officer
ADD:
14 Classroom Teachers
7 Guidance Counselors
2 School Police Officers
1 Central Office Administrator
1 Support Staff
1 Alternative School Adminstrator/Counselor
If the current referendum is not renewed, SACS will not have the resources to hire additional staff and will need to address the loss of nearly $3.5M per year. Since the current referendum dollars are used 100% for salaries and benefits of 46 personnel, SACS would need to cut many positions in the district.
Registered voters and residents of Southwest Allen County School District may vote on the referendum on November 8th, 2022.
