Dear Families,

After receiving approval at tonight’s School Board Meeting, I am honored and excited to introduce myself as the new Superintendent of Southwest Allen County Schools (SACS). It is a privilege to join a district renowned for its commitment to educational excellence and the success of every student.

After 33 years, I retired from public education in 2021, and my wife and I moved back to Fort Wayne to be closer to our children and grandchildren. I knew it would take something extraordinary to bring me out of retirement, and the opportunity to lead SACS is precisely that.

The greatest satisfaction that I have in looking back on my career was being part of a school community that created a culture where students grew academically, socially, and emotionally.  Where parents said, "I am so glad and proud that my children attend school in this district." I enjoyed building those relationships with the adults in our schools who unselfishly took care of our kids every single day.  As important were the relationships built with parents where we worked together as a team to meet the needs of children. I bring to SACS those same goals and my unwavering commitment to serve this district.

My first priority in the coming months is to immerse myself in the SACS community. I am eager to meet with staff, students, and families to gain a deeper understanding of our district's strengths and opportunities. I believe that listening and learning are the cornerstones of effective leadership.  Look for further communication regarding community listening sessions dates and times.

Until then, I hope you continue to enjoy summer,
Kent A. DeKoninck, Ph.D., Superintendent
Southwest Allen County Schools
