A message from SACS School Board of Trustees

Posted Date: 5/24/24 (4:16 PM)

Good afternoon, SACS Families.

On behalf of the Southwest Allen County School Board (SACS) of Trustees, I am pleased to share with you that Dr. Kent DeKoninck has been selected as the new SACS Superintendent, starting on July 1, 2024, pending two public meetings in June.

Following our extensive search that included hearing from staff and our community about the qualities, skills, and attributes most vital in our next leader, we believe Dr. DeKoninck is the right choice as our district’s new Superintendent.

With over 33 years of public education experience Dr. DeKoninck is a well-regarded leader who will no doubt continue our momentum in building relationships and expanding our district’s learning opportunities for all students in a safe and welcoming environment. He leads with integrity and has successfully increased student achievement and managed a growing district and capital projects.

Dr. DeKoninck is a native of the Ft. Wayne, area. He has held various positions throughout his career, including junior/high school teacher, guidance counselor, assistant principal, principal, director of personnel, and assistant superintendent, serving in schools across Westfield, Carmel, Avon, and Perry Township. Before retiring in 2021, he spent eight years as the Superintendent of Greenwood Community Schools, during which he was honored as Indiana’s 2021 Superintendent of the Year.

Per Indiana Code, Dr. DeKoninck’s proposed contract will be available for public review on the district’s website, and the required public meetings are currently being scheduled. A complete timeline and link will be shared next week.

Dr. DeKoninck is anxious to get started and is planning to communicate with you soon.

On behalf of the SACS School Board of Trustees, thank you for your continued trust and support.

Jennifer Bennett, School Board President
